Jen's Story

“AKP helped me come back from cancer in several ways. First, their program and grant gave me an opportunity to do something I have always wanted to, but have been somewhat terrified of in the same respect. That was Skydiving. Cancer was a fearful time for me, and by jumping out of that perfectly good airplane, I felt no fear what-so-ever. What could be more scary then the idea that your own body was trying to kill itself? I felt betrayed by it, by my own body. Crazy, huh?

So now we go back to those things that USED to scare me, like public speaking, talking to a stranger, jumping out of an airplane, white water kayaking, rock climbing, even skiing. That old Jen Grabowski would not have done those things. The new cancer warrior takes it in stride!

Your program helped me to become that stronger, more fabulous person that had been buried inside of me. After diagnosis, surgery, chemo and recovery, I was content to be the mediocre person that just existed. It’s programs like AKP that made me see there is more to life. Cancer knocks you down, you can stay down or you can fight it out. Your program is for the fighters, the ones who want to live and love every minute doing it. And it inspires those who might not have the same drive by seeing the fabulous things you guys are achieving. Mediocre sucks. I am NOT that woman any more!!”
