The 4th Annual AKP “Fighting Cancer with Adventure” Bike Tour

Join us for the 4th Annual AKP Foundation “Fighting Cancer with Adventure” Bike Tour through picturesque southwestern Vermont. 100 & 50 kilometer (62 & 31 mile) loops are supported with food and drink stops manned by friendly volunteers!

There is an optional 4 km hill climb time trial from the bottom to the top of Rupert Mountain on the 100 km course, with gift certificate prizes awarded for the “Kings & Queens of the Mountain” (top male and female hill climb finishers under and over 40) courtesy of the Mountain Goat outdoor gear store in Manchester, Vermont.

The tour starts and ends at Burr & Burton Academy in Manchester.

Parking will be available behind the high school; the tour will begin from the circular drive in front of the high school.

SIGN-UP: Registration for both distances is $30 via through October 1. Thereafter, day-of registration is available the morning of the bike tour for $40.

FUNDRAISING: This event is being held to support a great cause (proceeds go to adventure or adaptive sporting equipment or experiences for young adult cancer fighters and survivors in financial need). As such, we strongly encourage all riders to set a personal fundraising goal of $100 – just ask five friends or family members for $20 pledges in support of your ride, and you’re there!

Become a Member of the AKP Bike Team! If you fundraise $250 or over, you become an honorary member of the AKP Bike Team and receive a stylish AKP bike jersey as well as AKP Euro sticker!

AKP Bike Tour Course Route Information:

100 KM RUPERT MTN LOOP <– click to link to map

This course begins at Burr & Burton Academy near the historic Equinox Hotel in Manchester, Vermont. It meanders over and through picturesque Dorset to the base of Rupert Mountain. The main challenge is a 2.5 mile (4 kilometer) climb to the top of Rupert Mountain, with riders given the option at sign-in to participate in a hill climb time trial in the Climb-to-Conquer spirit of AKP! For all 100 km riders, time trialing or not, there will be a food and drink stop at the top with amazing views in all directions! The remainder of the course meanders through scenic West Pawlett, Wells (food and drink stop on the town green), and Tinmouth before looping back through Pawlett and Dorset (another food and drink stop) before rolling home into Manchester at the base of Mount Equinox. A rural, scenic, and beautiful course — hilly and rewarding!

50 KM DORSET LOOP <– click to link to map

This course begins in Manchester and does a beautiful loop through Dorset, Vermont, including the spectacularly scenic Dorset West Road. The main challenge is a climb up quaint Dorset Hollow which is rewarded with great views and earned downhills rolling back to the start in Manchester.

Food, Drink & First Aid Stops; Other Rider SupportThe 100 km route will include three food, drink, and first aid stops (medical support available); the 50 km route will include two stops. Stops will provide water, sports drinks, granola bars, bananas, peanut butter, bagels & trail mix. Bikers should bring their own water bottles and any additional nourishment needed. Route signage will direct riders, and volunteers will ensure safety at key intersections, however riders are encouraged to familiarize themselves with their route in advance of the tour.
